Red Tomatoes!!

In the past my attempts to grow tomatoes on my mostly shady deck haven't been very successful. The best I've gotten is either a small handful of cherry tomatoes or a couple of big, hard green ones around the end of August. This year I planted a "Bush Champion" that is supposed to mature at 65 days, the shortest time I could find. And now that the weather has turned hot again....they're ripening!!! I can't wait to pick the first one.

You lucky dog! Our nights have been so cool, that the tomatoes are slow to ripen. I went away just as my slicing tomatoes were rippening...I tole my husband that they were almost ready. I was gone for 5 days, and when I came back, they were gone...my neighbors had picked them all....I have been lusting for slices with mozzarella, balsamic vinegar and fresh basil...BLTs, Cottage cheese and tomatoes....and the strange thing is, I was 22 before I'd eat a tomato! On the other hand...I have Tomatillos coming out the ears. Go figure.

They look yummy! Tomatoes and I haven't got off on the right footing yet. They're always over-run with pests and I end up with a couple of measly puny somethings that a tomato worth its name would sneer at!
I'm trying again this year, fingers crossed!
